Job Summary/Basic Functions

As the Colonel mascot you will be responsible for representing the University and bringing life to the character and spirit of EKU by portraying the mascot. Your role as the Colonel is vital in providing memorable experiences for all audiences involved with EKU and the community. The mascot will engage with all audiences at home athletics events, select away sporting events, University events (alumni, admissions, orientations, etc.), community events, and other events deemed necessary.

**Assume the character of the mascot and perform with energy and enthusiasm through a variety of movements, body language, gestures, dances, etc.

**Engage audiences with entertainment and provide a positive and memorable experience.

**Encourage participation at any event through cheers, chants, crowd interactions, posing for photos, and fan engagement.

**Attend required events for the mascot.

**Maintain the mascot costume, ensuring it remains in good condition and is clean and safe for each performance.

**Be punctual, prepared, and on-time for any appearances.

**Must be flexible in work hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate the University’s event schedule

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled full time at EKU.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Must be able to stand on your feet for 1 to 6 hours at a time.
    • Must be able to fit into mascot costume.
    • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to wear a large costume and is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects.
    • This position requires excellent mobility, coordination, and stamina.
    • The physical environment of this position requires the employee to be able to work in a hot, humid environment and in close quarters with their head covered and limited visibility due to the headgear of the costume.
    • Strong non-verbal communication skills, including the ability convey emotions through gestures and expressions.
  • Attendance Requirements
    • All home football games and activities surrounding game days
    • Selected away football/other sport games or activities
    • Selected home men and women basketball games
    • Other selected home athletics events or games
    • Orientation events
    • Homecoming events
    • Alumni events
    • Campus events
    • Non-athletics events will be coordinated through yourself and your supervisor on what is needed from campus administration.
    • Athletics events will be coordinated through yourself and the Cheerleading program and the athletics marketing department.
