Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Safety and Security in the College of Justice, Safety, and Military Science at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Academic Year 2025-2026. Applicants should hold an earned doctoral degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a doctoral degree (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment. Candidates with a J.D. may be considered. The position begins August 2025 or January 2026.

This position serves undergraduate and graduate courses in the Homeland Security (HLS) Program. Courses encompass a breadth of instruction in the disciplines of emergency/disaster management, intelligence studies, and security management. Candidates may specialize in one or more of these disciplines. Faculty members normally teach four (4) courses per semester, and they develop assigned courses, assure quality and innovations in teaching and learning, and mentor students. Responsibilities include on-campus and online undergraduate and graduate instruction; research and scholarship; and service to the profession, community, and university.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess professional experience in a related field, prior teaching experience in higher education, a scholarly record, active professional engagement, and a commitment to excellence in student education. Given the importance of virtual learning in higher education, preference will also be given for candidates who have experience with Canvas or another online learning management system.
