Job Summary/Basic Functions

Advises assigned students for the purpose of assisting them in establishing plans and goals. Provides onboarding services to assist with required petitions, transfer credits, and course scheduling. Assists with graduation clearance process for assigned students. Reports to Associate Dean and works closely with other college advisors to learn curriculum of relevant departments and assist and track curricular processes and changes. Utilizes university resources such as DegreeWorks, Advising360, Banner, and Slate to process information and keep timely and accurate records. Interacts with students as needed through meetings, phone, and/or email to troubleshoot or problem solve advising and retention challenges.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor required. Master's preferred.

Experience: One or more years of experience working with students in an advisory capacity.

Job Duties:

  • 50% - Serve as Primary Academic Advisor for Assigned freshmen and sophomore students for the purpose of assisting them in establishing an academic plan and positive and effective strategies that will enable student retention and success. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Review degree audits of students who have applied for graduation (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) to ensure they are on track and to resolve any issues that would prevent their timely completion of their degree program. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Collaborate with other professional advisors and Associate Dean to learn curriculum of relevant departments and assist and track curricular processes and changes. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Collaborate with CJSMS advisors to support advising efforts for in-person and online programs operating within the college. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Other duties as assigned - (Essential)
