Job Summary/Basic Functions

An ASL Staff Interpreter facilitates communication between persons who are deaf/hard of hearing and all aspects of the public and private sector, which may include, but are not limited to academic, business and other entities as needed and appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Experience: Equivalency
• Education may substitute for experience, but experience may not substitute for education.

Licensure & Certifications: Minimum Education Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree is required

License/Certification
• National Interpreting Certification is required and must be maintained
• Full Interpreting License is required and must be maintained
• Multiple certifications in various areas of expertise is preferred

Minimum Experience Required:
• Three years of directly related experience is required

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Job Duties:

  • 90% - Provides Direct Interpreting Services. Facilitates communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals and University and Personal contacts related to the individuals in both the public and the private sectors. Requires a high level of critical thinking and bi-lingual linguistic competency. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Ensure adherence to contracts, laws, regulations, and University policies, procedures, and standards. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Completes all other duties as assigned to ensure effective operation of the department. - (Essential)

Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending upon the needs of the unit, available sponsorship budget, and the qualifications of the candidate.
