Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of English at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting Academic Year 2025-2026. Applicants should hold an earned Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment. The position begins July 31, 2025.

Applicants should have expertise in composition theory and practice and additional expertise in one or more of the following areas: developmental composition, dual credit writing, academic preparedness, literacy, or critical reading.

The successful candidate will be a dedicated teacher and scholar who has evidence of scholarly engagement (i.e., publications or presentations) and has an agenda for scholarly publication projects.

English faculty teach a 4/4 load, teaching undergraduate major and general education courses, mentoring students, and maintaining an active record of service and scholarship. Faculty also have the potential to teach courses in our online MA program in English and Writing Professions (MAEWP).


Minimum Qualifications

Education: Earned Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or related field from an accredited institution at time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment.

Experience: -Three years of college teaching experience
-Expertise in composition theory and practice and one or more of the following: dual credit
writing, academic preparedness, literacy, or critical reading
-Knowledge of current practices in professional communication and social media
-Effective interpersonal communication skills
-Strong oral and written communication skills
-Analytic and problem solving skills
-Active and effective listening skills
-Ability to collaborate with peers and students
-Ability to understand and adapt to current trends in professional communication
-Evidence of good character, mature attitude, and professional integrity

OPTIONS:
-A minimum of three (3) years experience teaching at the college or university level;
-Evidence of potential ability in academic assignment and/or professional contributions and activities;
-Experience teaching online courses.
-Experience working with learning management systems.
