Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Engineering and Technology at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Academic Year 2024-2025. Applicants should hold an earned Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering or a related field such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment. The position begins August 2024.

The position serves manufacturing engineering, engineering technology management, and technology management majors. It requires a strong desire to bring real-world experiences into the classroom. Industry experience in manufacturing or related functions is preferred.

Depending on subject matter expertise, the successful candidate will teach courses that may include, but are not limited to, Computer Aided Drafting, Mechanics of Materials, Metrology, Quality, Lean, Advanced Materials, Robotic Manufacturing, Additive Manufacturing, and other common engineering courses in a 4/4 annual teaching load. Candidates should show appropriate ability to teach courses related to one’s curricular area and demonstrate interest in learning and using effective teaching and evaluation methods.

The successful candidate will also develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda in one of the three Boyer-Model areas: application, pedagogy, or discovery. Membership and participation in state, regional, national, or international professional organizations is recommended.

Candidates should also show the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues and the campus community; show respect for, support, and advise students; and participate in service to the department, university, or community. Familiarity with and willingness to contribute toward ABET accreditation activities is helpful.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Earned Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering or a related field such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment.

Experience:

• Knowledge of manufacturing processes
• Analytic and problem-solving skills
• Ability to collaborate with peers and students
• Effective written, oral and interpersonal skills, including listening
• Knowledge of professional communication practices (which can include social media), and ability to learn and adapt to changes

Licensure & Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

• Industry experience in manufacturing or related functions preferred.
• Teaching or training experience, preferably with an engineering lab component, preferred.
• Experience with manufacturing processes, tools, systems, and/or problem-solving techniques commonly used in industry preferred.

Job Duties:

  • 80% - Teaching minimum 12 credit hours per semester (typically 4-classes per semester) - (Essential)
  • 10% - Service to University, College, Department, and Community as appropriate. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Scholarly work in one or more of the three Boyer-Model areas (Application, Pedagogy, Discovery). - (Essential)
