Job Summary/Basic Functions
The CACREP-accredited Counselor Education Program in the Department of Clinical Therapeutic Programs at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Academic Year 2026-2027. Applicants should hold an earned Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited institution/program. ABD applicants may be considered with evidence of a scheduled doctoral defense that occurs no later than May 2026 prior to an August 2026 appointment. Applicants must also hold an active state counseling license and both be eligible for Kentucky clinical counseling licensure and willing to pursue Kentucky licensure within one year. The position begins August 2026.
The Assistant Professor of Counselor Education serves courses in clinical mental health counseling. It requires a minimum of two years’ experience teaching at the college or university level; a minimum of two years’ experience supervising clinical students or novice professionals; and experience teaching across the eight core content areas of the CACREP curriculum. The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses in clinical mental health counseling and supervision - with focus in such content areas as counseling theories, assessment and testing, and diagnosis and treatment - and provide clinical supervision to master’s students in a workload consistent with the needs and priorities of the college and institution. The successful candidate will also develop and maintain an active scholarly research agenda, including publications and presentations, and participate in service to the department, college, university, community and profession.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: • Minimum of an Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited institution/program

Experience: • A minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching at the college or university level
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience supervising clinical students or novice professionals
• Experience teaching across the eight core content areas of the CACREP curriculum with particular experience in:
o Counseling theories
o Assessment and testing
o Diagnosis and treatment
o General clinical counseling practice
Licensure & Certifications: Applicant must presently hold an active state counseling license and both be eligible for Kentucky clinical counseling licensure and willing to pursue Kentucky licensure within one year
Preferred Qualifications:
• Evidence of potential ability and interest in academic assignment, professional contributions and activities, and leadership both to the profession and institution/program;
• Strong identification with professional counselor identity and evidence of such;
• Some experience designing and teaching online courses in both asynchronous and synchronous formats;
• Experience using the Canvas learning management system;
• Experience with CACREP accreditation and compliance as well as ability to assist in management of such;
• Strong oral and written communication skills;
• Analytic and problem-solving skills; and
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues and students
