Job Summary/Basic Functions

The College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (CSTEM) at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) invites applications and nominations for the combined position of Chair of the Department of Engineering and Technology, and the Director of the Manufacturing Engineering program (housed within the Dept. of Engineering and Technology).

The Chair/Director reports to the Dean of the College of STEM. Position includes administrative, budgetary, and program decision-making within the Department. The Chair/Director is responsible for building relationships with Industry Advisory Boards, other industry partners, and alumni to generate mission-aligned revenue. As Director of MFE, the candidate will oversee curriculum and EAC-ABET initial accreditation, facility planning, and program implementation. Promotion, growth, and accreditation of the Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering program will be a primary focus.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Recruiting students, faculty, and staff; long- and short-range planning; managing program budgets; planning and supervising engineering laboratories; supporting faculty development; leading program accreditation efforts; promoting excellence in teaching; coordinating efforts to recruit and retain students; promoting curriculum development; representing the program as necessary to the College, University, and service region; working with advisory councils; fostering corporate alliances; working with economic development efforts and initiatives in Kentucky.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: PhD is required in Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related field such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, from a regionally (SACS, Middle States, North Central, etc.) accredited or internationally recognized institution.

Experience: Relevant professional work experience. Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to work with multiple constituencies.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in university academic leadership; experience with ABET accreditation; experience with EAC-ABET accreditation for new engineering programs. Credentials to be eligible for appointment at the rank of professor at EKU: demonstrated record of distinguished teaching, research/scholarship, and service; experience in curriculum development, program expansion, student recruitment and retention; faculty recruitment and development; fiscal management; a record of involvement in professional societies and community relations; experience with lean manufacturing; PE or PE-eligible.
