Schedule Type:  Part Time, No Benefits (less than 20 hrs per week)

Hours Per Week: 20

Additional Schedule Details: Schedules and Assignments vary and include Patrol/Escort, Directed Patrol, the Library, and other areas as needed.

Typically, shifts are during Evenings, Overnights, and on Weekends, including hours from 3PM through 3AM all week, and from 7AM through 3:30PM on Saturdays and Sundays.

Posted Salary Grade: $15 per hour

Job Summary/Basic Functions

Police Community Service Officer

The PCSO is a non-sworn part-time employee under the supervision of the EKU Police Shift Supervisor or their designees. Their employment will give them work experience in law enforcement, safety, & security. They shall not carry weapons, not carry any item that can be considered part of the use of force continuum, not perform detainment or arrest functions of Police Officers, and are not authorized to use any level of force beyond professional presence and respectful words in the performance of their duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a current EKU Student
  • Police Community Service officers must have their own transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • FEMA EMI IS 906 Workplace Security Awareness (Online/Distance Learning)
    (This Training may be required upon being hired)
  • FEMA EMI IS 907 Active Shooter: What You Can Do (Online/Distance Learning)
    (This Training may be required upon being hired)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Careful and methodical attention to detail is desired.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills are desired.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are desired.

Job Duties:

  • To maintain an assigned post or patrol in an assigned area for the purpose of observing any suspicious activity or dangerous situation and reporting said observations to the proper authority. The proper authority is usually a member of the EKU Police Department or other member of the Division of Public Safety. Reports can be made by calling the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) by radio or telephone at 859-622-1111 or 859-624-2947. Depending on the circumstances, proper authority may be another member of the University community, who is in responsible charge of the area or function that the situation is observed in or pertains to. Security related issues should be corrected immediately, as appropriate, if possible, and reported in writing to the Police Department. - (Essential)
  • To be fully familiar with the geography and rules of the University so that they will provide accurate information and directions to those persons needing assistance. - (Essential)
  • To give proper and complimentary representations of the University and the Division of Public Safety by maintaining a proper personal appearance and demeanor. - (Essential)
  • Other duties as would be proper for their function in the Division as directed by the appropriate supervisor or their designees, such as, but not limited to university policy and procedure control and enforcement, traffic control and direction, key services, motorist assists, various equipment function checks and maintenance activities, and other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
