Model Laboratory Schools at Eastern Kentucky University provides a world-class K-12 educational experience designed to prepare the next generation of leaders. Established in September 1906, Model opened its doors as the first school of its kind in Kentucky as an integral part of the Eastern Kentucky Normal School, which would become Eastern Kentucky University. Model is the only educational laboratory school in the Commonwealth, which has established it as a school of choice throughout the region.

 

Job Summary/Basic Functions

An EKU Model/Early Childhood Center Paraeducator II, under the direction of certified educators, performs a variety of skilled instructional functions pertaining to specific student skill development of both special needs and non-identified pupils. Through intense learning experiences, student supervision and academic performance documentation, the Paraeducator assists educators daily in support K-12 student growth, including independent classroom management and instructional services, and pre-service learning for EKU students. Paraeducators must meet job description requirements, including physical, such as standing, walking and being able to lift up to 40 pounds. The hours for this position are 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily and the paraeducator will help with the extended learning program.

Experience:

Licensure & Certifications: Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications:

At least one year of experience working with youth in an organized setting supplemented with some instructional experience in a classroom environment service children and parents, preferably inclusive of special needs and multicultural students.

Job Duties:

  • 80% - Provide student instruction under the direction of certified educators. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Provide supervision and guidance for students, and assist in accompanying students to assigned areas. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Assist with additional job functions that arise as requested/assigned. - (Essential)
