Job Summary/Basic Functions

The MFA Program Specialist is responsible for staffing the Bluegrass Writers Studio office; creating and distributing marketing materials; maintaining the social media presence of the Bluegrass Writers Studio; updating the MFA student handbook; assisting the Program Director in arranging, preparing, and coordinating the domestic summer residency in July; assisting students with enrollment for the summer residency in Lisbon, Portugal; providing technical assistance to online graduate students; and serving as managing editor for the literary journal Jelly Bucket, including all aspects of production and distribution.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: B.A. in English or related-area of Humanities required; MFA in Creative Writing preferred.

Experience: The applicant must have experience with some of the following: web design (no html experience required), desktop publishing, Office Suite, Adobe Suite (primarily inDesign and Photoshop). Additional education or work experience in online education, communications, marketing, or related field and/or photography, visual arts, or graphic design is highly desirable. The successful candidate will also have experience with or demonstrable ability to learn the features of Canvas, Ventrilo, and Banner.

 

 

Job Duties:

  • 25% - Develops promotional and advertising materials.
  • 20% - Recruits new students for the MFA.
  • 20% - Plans, schedules, and coordinates some program activities.
  • 25% - Is the managing editor, producer, and publisher.
  • 10% - Provides technical assistance and support for faculty members and students teaching.
