Job Summary/Basic Functions

Student Assistant needed for the College of Justice, Safety & Military Science. Student Assistant will staff the College Advising Office front desk, where they will schedule appointments for academic advisors, assist with basic advising questions, and direct visitors throughout the building. Student Assistant will also assist with standard office duties related to filing, copies, and organization.

Student Assistant will also assist with college-sponsored events, including event setup and cleanup, moving tables, chairs, etc.; data entry; research; social media; and other duties as assigned. Student Assistant will assist with direct recruitment initiatives, including but not limited to building tours, emails to prospective students, direct mail efforts, etc.

The ability to work independently and deal with the public is inherent to the position. An outgoing personality with strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Student Assistant must be able to lift/move boxes and other materials and may also be required to work occasional evenings or weekends (with prior notice) in support of college-related events. College of Justice, Safety & Military Science major is strongly preferred.

Position is funded by Federal Work Study Funds. Institutional Funding is not available for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled EKU student in good academic standing.
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and ability to work independently.
  • Genuine interest in helping fellow students and prospective students.
  • Willingness to learn and accurately communicate information about the assigned academic college and EKU resources.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow FERPA requirements.
  • Ability to attend required training and scheduled events.

Preferred Qualifications:

Assisting with college-sponsored events, mailings, data entry, clerical duties, cleaning/organizing, and other duties as assigned. Student Assistant must have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and other common software programs and social media platforms. An outgoing personality, dependability, promptness, confidentiality, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and being a self-starter are required. Students must also be able to lift/move boxes and have reliable transportation. Occasional events/weekends (with prior notice) may be required.
