Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Emergency Management & Security Technician is a student employee position under the supervision of the Director of Emergency Management and the Projects & Infrastructure Manager or their designee(s). This position will give the employee work experience in emergency management, safety, and security related activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at Eastern Kentucky University.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work requires enrollment at Eastern Kentucky University, be in good academic standing, and have a general interest in the field of Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Criminal Justice, or related field.
  • Federal Work Study eligibility preferred. 

Job Duties:

  • Assisting the Director of Emergency Management and the Projects & Infrastructure Manager in researching, designing, developing, coordinating, implementing, and maintaining Campus Emergency Management activities and plans. Assist EM&S team members in overseeing the day-to-day physical and technical security infrastructure, any applicable employees, and make recommendations for security improvements to the campus environment. - (Essential)
  • Provide accurate information and directions to those persons needing assistance. Full familiarity with the geography and rules of the University is necessary for this. - (Essential)
  • Give proper and complimentary representations of the University and the Division by maintaining a proper personal appearance and demeanor. - (Essential)
  • Other duties as would be proper for this position’s function in the Division as directed by the appropriate supervisor or their designee, such as, but not limited to university policy and procedure control and enforcement, emergency plan creation, technical security equipment maintenance, various equipment function checks and maintenance activities, and other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
