Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Government at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position for the Academic Year 2025-2026. Applicants should hold an earned Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at time of appointment. The position begins in August 2025.

The position serves the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program within the department. It requires expertise in the core curriculum of the MPA program and American Government. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of, or potential for, high-quality teaching, including the ability to teach fully online courses.

The successful candidate will teach courses that may include, but are not limited to, Public Administration, Ethics, and Public Policy in the MPA program and Introduction to American Government courses at the undergraduate level. The teaching load is 15 credit hours per semester.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: An earned Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at time of appointment.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain a 15 hour per semester teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students
  • Utilize effective teaching methods, innovative teaching techniques, and teaching modalities, and multiple evaluation and assessment procedures as a means to help meet the needs of EKU students
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to one’s curricular area
  • Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of EKU, its academic units, and its campus community
