Job Summary/Basic Functions

Summer Elective Instructor Positions:
The EKU Upward Bound program is seeking summer instructors for the 2025 Summer Chautauqua to teach various elective courses.

The Upward Bound Summer Chautauqua is a six-week, college-preparatory program housed on EKU’s campus which will take place from June 7th- July 18th. Students will live on campus and take classes through this simulated college experience. Classes will run for 5 weeks, Monday, Tuesday, and/ or Thursday beginning on June 10th and ending on July 10nth.

Approximately 15-20 students will attend each class meeting. An instructor can expect to teach four sections and have a 9a-3p workday, with a schedule of Monday, Tuesday, and/ or Thursday. Instructors will have a 50-minute planning period and a one-hour duty-free lunch each day on campus. The purpose of these courses is to strike interest and create excitement in topics beyond normal classroom instruction.

Instructors are expected to design and implement a curriculum for the courses that will allow students to expand their mind, gain independence, and participate in this simulated college experience. Instructors will be given the freedom to develop course topics based on student data and input. In addition, successful candidates are expected to attend a brief orientation in late May, an awards banquet for students, and an end of summer debrief meeting.
