Job Summary/Basic Functions

A group fitness instructor will lead weekly group fitness classes. They must be willing to participate in Campus Recreation special events, sub for other instructors as needed, or lead private classes as requested. Instructors will have the opportunity to be creative, and must be willing to learn and able to work autonomously under little direct supervision. Instructors are responsible for the well-being of their class members and must be willing to interact socially with participants, making them feel welcome.

Job Duties:

  • 75% - Design/create and execute well-formatted group fitness classes. Lead participants in an outgoing, friendly, and welcoming environment. Willingness to learn to take constructive feedback from supervisor and peer regarding coaching skills and leadership. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Administrative duties - preparing equipment, preparing class space, communicating with supervisor, checking in class participants, cleaning, documenting workouts. Team trainings to advance instructor/coaching skills, emergency preparedness training. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Team work and communication with other fitness and wellness staff. Team meetings, team outings. All-staff training with all Campus Recreation employees. Staff large events (Health fairs, Rec the Ravine). Regular meetings with supervisor, active communication. - (Essential)
