Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Department of Environmental & Public Health, Administration and Medical Sciences at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Academic Year 2026-2027. Applicants should hold at the time of appointment either an earned doctorate in Public Health or a doctorate in a related discipline with a master’s degree in public health. Degrees must be from an accredited institution. The position begins August 2026.
The position serves core and major courses in the department, including courses in the B.S. in Public Health (with Health Promotion and Pre-Professional concentrations) and the Master of Public Health program (with a Health Promotion concentration). Applicants should demonstrate academic training and public health practical experience that complement the department’s expertise and resources. Demonstrated experience with relationship-rich education as well as student academic- and professional-readiness is preferred.
The successful candidate will teach a combination of undergraduate and graduate courses in public health, including but not limited to, general education, epidemiology, biostatistics, health data interpretation, program planning and evaluation in a workload consistent with the needs and priorities of the college and institution.
The faculty member will help the Public Health program continue toward innovation and excellence and play a vital role in integrating principles of epidemiology and public health informatics into their teaching. We’re seeking an ideal faculty member who possesses a strong background in epidemiology, biostatistics, and public health informatics to meet evolving instructional and workforce needs in public health. Expertise in these areas is essential for preparing students to analyze public health data, interpret results, share results with a variety of audiences in ways that they can understand and act upon, promote evidence-based decision-making, and succeed in professional practice. The ideal candidate will also possess proficiency in statistical software and data visualization tools, enabling them to integrate technology into course delivery and facilitate meaningful, data-driven learning experiences. This skill set is critical to strengthening the program’s curriculum and ensuring students are equipped with the analytical competencies required in today’s public health landscape.
The successful candidate will also develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda, may conduct academic advising, and will participate in service to the department, university, and community to build academic and public health practice collaboration, enhance student learning experiences, and foster relationships to impact the health of our communities. In addition, membership and participation in state, regional, national, or international professional organizations are recommended.
The University places a high priority on being leaders in the responsible use of artificial intelligence and in building such capacity in our students. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of artificial intelligence pertinent to the discipline and/or a willingness to pursue professional development to acquire such expertise.
