Job Summary/Basic Functions

An EKU Boiler & Preventive Maintenance Mechanic troubleshoots and repairs institutional boilers, air handlers and cooling towers in a institutional environment. Also repairs and/or installs boiler equipment such as pumps, electric motors and steam/hot water piping. Position requires a high degree of mechanical ability and problem solving skills. Position requires working with and assisting water treatment technicians, outside contractors and other shops as needed. The ability to use proper hand tools and specialized equipment is required. Individual must have a "Safety First" priority and be familiar with Lock out Tag out.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: - Two years of related work experience is required.
- Experience must include a working knowledge of boiler and cooling towers maintenance procedures.
- Incumbent should have experience in Low pressure, High pressure and Hot water boilers, general knowledge of air handlers and cooling towers.

Licensure & Certifications: Licensure in plumbing, pipefitting or HVAC trades is preferred, but not required.

- National Boiler Codes
- Plumbing and Gas Codes
- EPA Regulations
- Proper Use of Hand and Power Tools
- Lock out/Tag out
- Three Phase Electric and Pump/Motor Repair

Job Duties:

  • 60% - Maintains and repairs University boilers, cooling towers and air handlers - (Essential)
  • 20% - Conducts preventive maintenance checks as required. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Troubleshoots and repairs boilers, air handlers and cooling towers as required. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Ensures compliance with all regulatory and/or policy requirements. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Supports smooth and efficient operations of the department and the University by completing all other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
