Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Government at Eastern Kentucky University seeks applications for a faculty member in the Political Science Program at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure track, beginning on or about August 1, 2026. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory and advanced courses in American government and institutions. Previous experience teaching at the post-secondary level is preferred. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in political science, public administration, government, public policy, public affairs, or a closely relate field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. The position serves the undergraduate political science program and other department programs, including the MPA Program. It requires the ability to develop and teach fully online classes. The successful candidate should be, or should have the potential to be, a high-quality teacher and an active scholar. The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate classes, including courses related to American Government and related institutions, in a 12-hour-per-semester teaching load. The successful candidate will also develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda, conduct academic advising, and participate in service to the department, university, and community. In addition, membership and participation in state, regional, national, or international professional organizations is recommended.

The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of artificial intelligence pertinent to the discipline and/or a willingness to pursue professional development to acquire such expertise.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Ph.D. in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment

• Analytic and problems solving skills
