Job Summary/Basic Functions

Camp Invention Teaching Assistant

Camp Invention is a week-long STEM camp for students in grades K-6. This camp will be held at the Science Building at EKU July 13-17, 2026. The camp is 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM all five days. Throughout the week the students engage in a variety of activities and hands-on challenges to spark curiosity and build their confidence in STEM opportunities to imagine, experiment, and create. Camp Invention Teaching Assistants are granted funded positions and will only occur for the designated dates listed below. The Camp Invention Teaching Assistants will be expected to work 20-29 hours during this camp week and two training sessions at an agreed upon time with the PI.


Camp Invention Teaching Assistants will be working directly with and supporting students in grades K-6 at the camp. They will be supporting both students with and without disabilities during the camp. This includes, but not limited to the following:

• Transitions to different areas of the building
• Providing directions and instructions to students
• Creating accommodations and opportunities for accessible learning opportunities in the different camp STEM activities
• Support students during active play and lunch time activities

Requirements for all Camp Invention Teaching Assistants include:
• Available during the week July 13-17, 2026, between hours 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM
• Ability to get to the Science Building on EKU Campus
• In addition to EKU’s hiring practices, Teaching Assistants must also complete all Camp Invention’s volunteer requirements, including a background check required for Leadership Intern Program through National Inventors Hall of Fame organization
• Complete all Camp Invention Volunteer Requirements, including background check
• Willingness to participate in research with PI for research study occurring with the camp
• Passed SED 104
• Preferred: Admitted to the School of Education Teacher Education Program or completing minor in Special Education

This position will pay $14 per hour. Students will work no more than 29 hours as part of this program.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Must be enrolled at EKU and have passed SED 104

Sponsorship: This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. 

Special Instructions: Please submit a copy of your resume, unofficial transcript to confirm taken passed SED 104, and write a short essay describing your experience and interest in support students with disabilities.
