Job Summary/Basic Functions

An EKU Counselor provides for the psychological needs of the university student community through the development and application of research-based psychological principles and techniques within the context of the University's and Counseling Center's mission to promote the personal, social and academic development and overall success of the university students.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master's degree or higher in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or Family Studies with emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy or related field, required.

Experience: At least 1 year of related experience is required. Experience working in an accredited university counseling center preferred.Demonstrates commitment to inclusive excellent and multicultural competence. Expertise in providing clinical services to students of color and other marginalized student groups.Strong theoretical understanding of multicultural issues in mental health.

Licensure & Certifications: Must be licensed or license-eligible in the state of Kentucky by the Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy licensing boards. If pursuing licensure at the Master's level by the Kentucky Board of Psychology, must meet all requirements for Licensed Psychological Associate licensure by start date and licensure at the independent practice level (Licensed Psychological Practitioner) is expected to be obtained within 6 years from hire. If pursuing licensure as a Psychologist, must meet all Kentucky Board of Psychology requirements to initiate licensure as a Psychologist by start date and be fully licensed at the independent practice level within 18 months of start. For other types of licensure, having the status of fully licensed for independent functioning is preferred. Individual will be responsible to maintain their license thereafter.

Job Duties:

  • 65% - Provide individual and group psychotherapy to enrolled EKU students - (Essential)
  • 5% - Obtain consultation and/or supervision when indicated or as required by the Board of Psychology and accreditation guidelines to ensure standard care and quality of services provided. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Participate in professional development and continuing education opportunities by attending trainings, maintaining membership(s) and professional licensure, developing and facilitating trainings at conferences, and delivering seminar information to appropriate audiences. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Develop, provide and evaluate outreach programming on mental health issues to the university community. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Consult with the university and local community on psychological issues to provide educational presentations and/or workshops to the university community regarding the needs reported in those consultation meetings, and on detecting troubled students and referral procedures. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Provide crisis management for university students, faculty and staff. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Support the office function by completing all other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
