Job Summary/Basic Functions

The role of a Financial Aid Counselor involves managing and accessing student financial data in the University, as well as federal and state databases. This requires an understanding of database structure and function, as well as advanced system application skills and excellent customer service abilities. The specialist must be able to respond to requests and needs from federal and state government agencies, external organizations, university departments, and students who require financial information.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree required.

Experience: One year of relevant experience required.

Job Duties:

  • 40% - Supports the administration of scholarships and state aid by assisting with tuition waiver processing, reconciliation, and troubleshooting. Manages outside agency scholarships and third-party fund authorizations. Provides additional support for manual scholarship processing and KHEAA scholarship processing during peak periods. - (Essential)
  • 30% - Oversees the Federal Work-Study Program, including budget management, fund allocation, reporting, and compliance. Manages financial aid programs by overseeing daily operations such as awards, appeals, audits, and reconciliation. Coordinates the America Reads/Community Service Program with local schools and collaborates on expanding off-campus job opportunities for students. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Oversees the Study Abroad Program, including budget management, fund allocation, compliance, and reporting. Collaborates with the Study Abroad Office and Student Accounting Services to ensure accurate financial aid processing and refunds. Manages Study Abroad Inquiry forms and Worksheets. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Serves as the primary contact for budget-related support, including expense recording, reconciliation, and procurement card management. Maintains receipts and records per the University’s retention schedule. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Supports office functions by completing all other duties and special assignments as assigned. - (Essential)
