Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Fire Protection & Paramedicine Sciences at Eastern Kentucky University, College of Justice, Safety & Military Sciences, invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for the 2025-2026 academic year. Applicants should hold an earned master’s degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. A doctorate is preferred. The position begins in January 2026 .

This position will have an emphasis in one or more of the following degree programs: Fire Protection Administration, Fire and Explosion Investigations, or Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology (FPSET). All three degree programs are accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), and the Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology program is additionally accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET (https://www.abet.org).

The ideal candidate will have practical documented experience in one or more of the following: Forensic investigation of fires and/or explosion incidents; Fire Protection Engineering or directly related fields; Chief-level administration of a multifaceted Fire/Emergency services organization. Excellence in, and a commitment to, teaching is essential. Maintenance of certification/licensure is also required.

The successful candidate will primarily teach undergraduate fire protection-related courses online and on campus in a 4/4 annual teaching load, develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda, and participate in service to the department and the university.

The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of artificial intelligence pertinent to the discipline and/or a willingness to pursue professional development to acquire such expertise.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: An earned master’s degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. Doctorate is preferred.

Experience: The ideal candidate will have practical documented experience in one or more of the following: Forensic investigation of fires and/or explosion incidents; Fire Protection Engineering or directly related fields; Chief level administration of a multifaceted Fire/Emergency services organization.
