Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Institute for Creative and Collaborative Arts (ICCA) at Eastern Kentucky University seeks a dynamic and accomplished leader as Director of the School of Music. In addition to administrative duties for the School of Music, the successful candidate will serve as Director of Orchestras and should have significant experience working with all levels of student musicians.

This individual will collaborate with the ICCA Executive Director in order to advance the ICCA mission and vision. Reporting to the ICCA Executive Director, the successful candidate will possess academic and administrative experience and significant achievements as a music performer/orchestra director.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: PhD, DMA, MM, or equivalent from an accredited institution.

Experience: Evidence of successful administration and excellence in teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and service. An ongoing engagement with the field including familiarity with a broad range of historic and contemporary practices in pedagogy, scholarship, and artistry. Record of student-centric leadership. Significant experience in fiscal oversight and management. Commitment to establishing positive professional relationships.

  • % - Demonstrate strong people management skills, including fostering a culture of accountability and trust, implementing directives, and maintaining discipline as necessary. Recruit, retain and develop talented faculty, staff, and students. - (Essential)
  • % - Manage and mentor personnel to promote individual professional development and a collaborative culture among faculty, staff, and students. - (Essential)
  • % - Support innovation in teaching, research, and creative activity. - (Essential)
  • % - Direct the EKU Symphony Orchestra. - (Essential)
  • % - As the Director of Orchestra, work with instrumental faculty to create a cohesive and exciting instrumental area. - (Essential)
  • % - In collaboration with the Executive Director of the ICCA, manage fiscal and business resources through financial planning and strategy. - (Essential)
  • % - Oversee and participate in annual events like the Foster Music Camp and the annual Honors Orchestra, developing opportunities for community engagement and student recruitment. - (Essential)
  • % - Oversee reporting related to NASM accreditation, EKU Program Review, and SACSCOC assessment. - (Essential)
  • % - Ensure School of Music and faculty compliance with university policies and procedures. - (Essential)
  • % - Assist the Executive Director, Dean, and Development in donor cultivation and the stewardship of major gifts. - (Essential)
