Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for the Office of University Counsel will conduct and analyze
legal and policy research on matters impacting University operations as well as draft various documents, including but not limited to memorandums, letters, and other communications related to departmental activities. It is anticipated that the GA also will work closely with University staff on the development, revision, and implementation of the University’s Policies, including but not limited to staffing drafting team meetings as well as benchmarking existing and prospective Policies with those at other colleges and universities.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication, time management, and problem-solving skills as well as possess the ability to comprehensively examine emerging issues to find workable solutions in a timely manner.

The successful candidate will also display an interest in law, government, higher education administration, business administration, and/or public administration.

This position provides a partial tuition waiver and stipend per semester. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must hold a Bachelor's Degree
  • Must be enrolled at EKU

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Experience in a professional office and/or legal setting
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Outlook and Word); experience with document management systems is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to professionalism
