Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Parks, Recreation, Exercise and Sport Science (PRESS) at Eastern Kentucky University invites applicants for a part-time faculty position to teach courses in the Exercise and Sport Science program.

Course topics may include, but are not limited to: strength and conditioning, pre-professional healthcare (pre-athletic training or physical therapy), exercise and wellness, fitness, wellness experiences and activities courses in martial arts, or other specific activities courses.

To be considered to teach undergraduate level courses, applicants should hold an earned doctorate or master's degree in the teaching discipline or master's degree with concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline) OR a bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sport Science (or relevant discipline) and documented experience in the field upon approval.

Part-time faculty may teach up to nine credit hours, depending on departmental needs.

Applicants will be screened and contacted as departmental needs for part-time faculty arise. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.

Unofficial transcripts are acceptable at the time of application. Official transcripts are required at the time of the position offer and as a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: For undergraduate courses, an earned doctorate or master's degree in the teaching discipline or master's degree with concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline) OR a bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sport Science (or relevant discipline) and documented experience in the field upon approval.

Licensure & Certifications: (*specific courses may require certification or licensure related to the topic area and if not submitted in the original application, may be requested)

Preferred Qualifications:

For activities courses: Individuals must have the minimum qualifications and appropriate instructor certifications/experience to teach various activity courses within the department or significant experience to demonstrate expertise.

For teaching core courses: Individuals will need a minimum of a masters degree in Exercise and Sport Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education or related field to teach undergraduate courses or a bachelor's degree and significant experience to demonstrate expertise. Individuals will need a terminal degree in the discipline to teach graduate level courses or a masters degree and significant experience to determine expertise.

Job Duties:

  • Teach courses as assigned at the times and in locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students. - (Essential)
  • Communicate effectively with department administration and students regarding assigned courses. - (Essential)
  • Submit course feedback using EKU's learning management and grade submission systems in a timely manner and in accordance with EKU's academic calendar. - (Essential)
