Job Summary/Basic Functions

An EKU Senior Programmer Analyst leads university system users in identifying problems, finding solutions, developing programs and distributing useful resources to solve current and potential informational challenges through analysis, expert knowledge of data, software, programming languages, research of best practices and excellent customer service to facilitate efficient and productive business processes for the university.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree required

Extensive training and on the job experience programming in an Oracle environment, using SQL, PL/SQL, and Oracle Developer tools. Experience with Ellucian Banner system a plus. Knowledge and proficiency in a wide variety of programming languages. Requires broad working knowledge of a specialized/technical function as well as experience within an institution of higher education. Requires the ability to gather, organize, and analyze data in the completion of daily procedures and provide leadership and oversight to solve non-routine problems. Requires the operation, maintenance, and ability to analyze and solve problems with a sophisticated information system. Experience in Unix environment a plus.

Experience: Minimum two years programming experience in a university-computing environment. Prefer experience with SCT Banner product. Must have proven skills working with Oracle database and development software, as well as related computer software and programming languages.

Job requires work of an advanced nature requiring expert, detailed knowledge, familiarity with procedures, and detailed knowledge of a particular branch of work. Previous related experience and an appropriate vocational or educational qualification would be necessary. Typically a period of at least one year would be required for new staff to become fully competent in the skills of the job. May require two to five years of previous related experience.

Job Duties:

  • 50% - Maintain university application software to maximize efficiency and productivity. Maintains expert knowledge of the application system at both technical and functional levels. Plan and coordinate testing of enhancements and upgrades according to established procedures. Coordinate end user testing, as necessary. Involves other technical personnel or other end users in testing, as necessary. Provide troubleshooting to resolve identified problems/ issues. Develop enhancements and interfaces to application as necessary and according to established procedures. Develop required and/or requested reports, forms and custom programming, as necessary, according to established procedures. Develop and maintain expert knowledge of the applications, data, and integrated systems. Prepare adequate documentation for users and operations staff, as required. Train and update staff backups to ensure continuity of operations. Provide troubleshooting and problem resolution as required and according to established procedures. j. Identify opportunities to maximize system utilization. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Ensure Data Integrity and Security. Perform ongoing analysis to ensure data integrity according to established procedures. Develops software tools for monitoring, as required. Validate and monitor data entry functions to identify duplicates and to ensure data is in line with current university policies and standards. Educate users on data entry standards. Resolve issues and develop a plan. Facilitate plan and provide for corrective action. Identify training needs for users as indicated from data monitoring - (Essential)
  • 15% - Provide user support to university community. Identify user issues Determine request feasibility. Research possible solutions. Develop a plan with user. Gather needed resources. Test solution. Implement plan and evaluate to ensure the results meet users’ original request. Prepare and maintain documentation on the process. Train and educate the users on the new system/process. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Provide ongoing support for university systems. Research potential problems. Evaluate policy changes and upgrades to ensure they are within university and departmental policy and standards. Develop strategies for policy changes and upgrades. Test strategy or solutions. Implement solutions and/or strategies. Train and educate users on any policy changes. Prepare and maintain documentation of process. Review and assess on a continual basis. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Other duties as assigned. Troubleshoot miscellaneous system problems. Assist in scheduling workloads. Professional development. Assist in recruitment. Special projects and committee work as assigned. - (Essential)
