Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Chair of the School of Justice Studies is responsible for overseeing all programs and associated aspects of the School of Justice Studies. The School currently houses undergraduate programs in criminal justice (BS), police studies (BS & AA) and corrections & juvenile justice (BS) as well as a masters in criminology and criminal justice (MS). This role combines administrative duties with academic leadership, requiring a balance of management, educational, and research experience in different aspects of the field of justice studies. The Chair plays a pivotal role in shaping the direction of justice education, maintaining academic standards, and cultivating relationships with other programs within the college and university as well as agencies within the broad field of Justice Studies.

The Chair provides leadership that supports the mission, vision and strategic goals of the University. The position is responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation and management of assigned instructional programs, services, budgets, and employees. The Chair will provide leadership in curriculum development, academic assessment, strategic planning and budgeting; employ enrollment management and retention strategies; foster collaborative working relationships with internal and external counterparts to communicate and coordinate initiatives that support College and local economic development initiatives.

Applicants should hold an earned Ph.D. in criminal justice, criminology, sociology, or a closely related field with research and teaching experience in criminal justice or criminology.

Review of candidates will begin in May and continue until the position is filled.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Ph.D. in criminal justice, criminology, sociology or a closely related field with research and teaching experience in criminal justice or criminology.

Experience: The Chair of the School of Justice Studies requires a dedicated professional with a proven track record in research, teaching, leadership, academic program management, and a passion for fostering excellence in justice education. This Chair will report to the Dean of the College of Justice, Safety, and Military Science.
