Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Government at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position for the Academic Year 2025-2026. Applicants should hold an earned Master's degree or Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.

The position serves the Political Science program within the department. It requires expertise in American Government. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of, or potential for, high-quality teaching, including the ability to teach fully online courses. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in a 15 credit hour per semester course load. Courses may include, but are not limited to, Congress, The Presidency, Elections & Campaigns, and Introduction to American Government.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The position begins in August 2025.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: An earned Master’s or Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at time of appointment.

Experience: • Evidence of, or potential for, high quality teaching with the ability to teach fully online courses
• Knowledge of current practices in professional communication and social media
• Effective interpersonal communication skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Analytic and problems solving skills
• Active and effective listening skills
• Ability to collaborate with peers and students

Job Duties:

  • % - Maintain a 15 hour per semester teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students - (Essential)
  • % - Utilize effective teaching methods, innovative teaching techniques, and teaching modalities, and multiple evaluation and assessment procedures as a means to help meet the needs of EKU students - (Essential)
  • % - Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to one’s curricular area - (Essential)
  • % - Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of EKU, its academic units, and its campus community - (Essential)
