Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Educational Coordinator (EC) is responsible for the recruitment of participants in target schools, to provide advising, support, guidance and mentoring to participants. The EC will encourage the completion of middle school, high school, enrollment in post-
secondary institutions, and to complete post-secondary education. The incumbent is also accountable for developing positive community partnerships and communicating the program’s services to targeted audiences.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Preference in Education, Counseling, Social Service, or similar.

Experience: Candidate should have a minimum of one year experience mentoring/teaching middle and/or high school students.

One year of related work experience is desired, preferably working with
students and adults from diverse populations.

Job Duties:

  • 35% % - Recruits students for Educational Talent Search Program • Initiate and schedule recruitment efforts in target schools • Develops excellent relationships with target school personnel, teachers and staff, service agencies and other referral agencies within the target areas. • Develops and maintains excellent relationships with secondary and post-secondary institutions within the target recruitment areas. • Maintains recruitment records according to established procedures • Compile data and develop reports regarding recruitment/follow-up activities as required and according to established procedures. - (Essential)
  • 45% % - Provides guidance and advising to participants • Establish ETS Office at target high school(s) • Address the needs indicated on each participant’s Needs Assessment. • Develops required materials for workshops as needed • Assist with out-of school participants’ educational needs as required. • Plan and facilitate parent meetings and workshops. • Develops working knowledge of standardized tests, academic requirements, career opportunities and financial aid information • Maintain participant records according to established procedures. • Coordinates and collaborates on the planning and implementation of target school field trips and other ETS enrichment opportunities. • Supervises participants on fieldtrips and activities, and ensures participant safety. • Develops written recommendations for students and staff as requested. • Ensures compliance with all regulations regarding confidentiality • Ensures grant required services are provided to participants. - (Essential)
  • 10% % - Plan and conduct ETS public relations and communication activities • Plan and conduct scheduling, planning and implementing public relations and communication events as required or requested. • Oversees the logistics required to support program activities as required and according to established procedures. • Oversees required logistics for college, university and various career areas to become aware of and work with the ETS program. • Develops school faculty/staff newsletters as required - (Essential)

Special Instructions: The EC is responsible for speaking to individuals and groups about the benefits of the program. ETS application distribution, collection and review for acceptance into ETS is required. The EC position includes administrative work of a more advanced nature requiring detailed knowledge and understanding of the ETS federal grant requirements, detailed documentation of services and participant involvement. The EC must have detailed knowledge of counseling and advising students regarding academic requirements, college preparation, financial literacy, financial aid, testing and careers.
