Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Computer Science & Information Technology at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems for Academic Year 2024-2025. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment. Applicants are expected to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills with undergraduate students and the University community. The position begins August 2025.

The position serves the newly launched program in Management Information Systems, which is designed to meet the needs of current and future professionals interested in computer-science based careers in the information technology sector. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate on-campus and/or online courses that may include, but are not limited to, Intro to Management Information Systems/Business Programming, Database Management, Networks and Telecommunications, Intro to Web Programming, Information Systems Analysis and Design, and Business Data Management and Analysis, in a 4/4 annual teaching load. The candidate may be assigned to teach Computer Science and Informatics courses as well. The successful candidate will also develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda, conduct academic advising, and participate in service to the department, university, and community. In addition, membership in state, regional, national, or international professional organizations is recommended.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Earned Ph.D. in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain a 4/4 teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students.
  • Utilize effective teaching methods, innovative teaching techniques and teaching modalities, and multiple evaluation and assessment procedures as a means to help meet the needs of EKU students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to one's curricular area.
  • Develop and maintain an active research agenda.
  • Keep up to date with one's field and curricular areas by reading and reviewing current scholarly or creative works and by attending conferences, seminars, workshops, courses, and faculty development activities.
  • Advise students in fulfilling program, departmental, college, and university assignments.
  • Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of EKU, its academic units, and its campus community.
