Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Executive in Residence for Healthcare Workforce is a part-time, senior advisory role that connects Eastern Kentucky University’s academic planning with the regional and state healthcare community. Reporting to the Chief Medical and Strategic Partnerships Officer, this role provides clinical expertise, professional advocacy, and strategic guidance to support healthcare workforce development initiatives, including the proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine. The Executive in Residence serves as a key ambassador to professional organizations, accrediting bodies, community providers, and policymakers, helping to strengthen clinical partnerships, advance accreditation readiness, and promote EKU’s mission to expand high-quality healthcare education in the region.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an AOA-accredited institution, required.

Experience: Demonstrated leadership in clinical practice, medical education, or healthcare administration.

Licensure & Certifications: Current medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Preferred Qualifications:

Exceptional public speaking skills, a robust professional network within Kentucky, and a deep commitment to osteopathic medical education.

Job Duties:

  • Clinical Expertise & Workforce Development
    • Provide high-level clinical expertise and engagement to support healthcare workforce development and education programs.
    • Advise on the strategic growth of the proposed Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) program.
    • Participate in university-wide projects, such as campus health and teaching initiatives, as scheduling permits.
  • Professional Advocacy & Representation
    • Serve as a primary ambassador for EKU’s healthcare initiatives within key professional organizations.
    • Maintain active, university-funded memberships and represent EKU at meetings for:
      • Kentucky Medical Association (KMA).
      • Kentucky Osteopathic Medical Association (KOMA).
      • Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians (KAFP).
    • Attend national conferences, specifically those related to the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) and the AACOM Educating Future Leaders conference, to stay current on national medical education trends.
  • Clinical & Community Liaison
    • Strengthen the pipeline between the university and the regional healthcare provider community.
    • Act as a liaison with community physicians and hospitals to promote the EKU COM mission.
    • Recruit high-quality Clinical Preceptors to support future student rotations during the accreditation process.
    • Partner with University Leadership to present healthcare initiatives to state legislators and policymakers to garner support for regional healthcare expansion. 
  • Accreditation & Academic Support
    • Review COCA standards for new and developing programs to ensure alignment with national standards.
    • Provide mentorship and support to the EKU Pre-Med Club and current students as scheduling permits.
