Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Graduate Assistant (GA) for the Office of University Counsel will conduct and analyze legal and policy research on matters impacting University operations; draft a variety of documents such as research memorandums as well as letters, emails, and other communications related to departmental activities; and, assist with the development, revision, and implementation of the University’s Policies by, for example, attending drafting team meetings as well as benchmarking existing and prospective Policies and drafting proposed Policy language. The GA is anticipated to also have opportunities to collaborate on work happening within other divisions with the Office of University Counsel and Compliance, including but not limited to the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication, time management, and problem-solving skills as well as possess the ability to comprehensively examine emerging issues to find workable solutions in a timely manner.
The successful candidate will also display an interest in law, government, higher education administration, business administration, and/or public administration.
This position provides a partial tuition waiver and stipend per semester. At the conclusion of the Fall 2025 semester, performance will be evaluated for possible continuation into Spring 2026 semester and beyond.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Experience in a professional office and/or legal setting
• Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Outlook and Word); experience with document management systems is a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Commitment to professionalism
