Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Student Associate supports the Office of Equal Opportunity & Title IX by assisting with daily office operations, educational programming, and campus outreach initiatives. Responsibilities include front desk support, administrative tasks, event and training logistics, maintaining office resources and systems, and assisting with special projects that advance the University's commitment to equal opportunity and compliance.

This position offers students the opportunity to develop professional skills in communication, organization, customer service, event coordination, and office administration while working in a collaborative, student-focused environment. Students will gain exposure to the operations of a university compliance office and contribute to programs that promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus.

The position requires professionalism, sound judgment, discretion, and adherence to university policies, including confidentiality requirements, FERPA, and the EKU Code of Conduct. The Student Associate is expected to communicate reliably with supervisors regarding scheduling and work responsibilities while handling sensitive information with care.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at Eastern Kentucky University. Preference will be given to students who have completed at least one academic year (sophomore standing or above).

Experience: Previous customer service, office, administrative, or student leadership experience is preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new software and technology.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and follow through on assignments.
Experience with graphic design, social media, or marketing platforms (e.g., Canva) is preferred but not required.

Job Duties:

  • 40% - Administrative & Office Operations Provide front desk coverage by greeting visitors, answering phones, and responding to general inquiries. Assist with document preparation, filing, data entry, mail distribution, scheduling, office organization, inventory management, and other administrative tasks that support daily office operations. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Case Management & Systems Support Assist staff with maintaining office records and case management systems, including document organization, template updates, communication logs, data quality review, and other administrative functions within Maxient and related office systems while maintaining strict confidentiality. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Education, Outreach & Event Support Provide logistical support for trainings, tabling events, awareness campaigns, and other educational programming. Prepare materials and displays, coordinate event logistics, update presentations and resource materials, assist with promotional communications, and support office outreach initiatives. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Student Engagement & Special Projects Assist with communication and scheduling for student volunteers, maintain outreach materials, update office resources and webpages, and complete special projects that support office initiatives and continuous improvement efforts. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Professional Development & Other Duties Complete required training, participate in relevant professional development opportunities, attend office meetings as appropriate, and perform other duties as assigned in support of the Office of Equal Opportunity & Title IX. - (Essential)
