Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Academic Year 2025-2026. Applicants should hold an earned Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences, Mathematics Education, or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment. The position begins August 2025.

The position serves Mathematics majors with concentrations in general mathematics and mathematics teaching. Our department offers nine General Education courses; content-level courses for majors like business, manufacturing engineering, chemistry, elementary education, and others; and graduate courses for students in the MA in Applied Mathematics and Data Science and graduate programs from the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology. This position requires the ability to involve and engage students in graduate and undergraduate research. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in a 4/4 annual teaching load, develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda, conduct academic advising, and participate in service to the department, university, and community. In addition, membership and participation in state, regional, national, or international professional organizations is recommended.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Earned Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment.

Experience:

• Effective interpersonal communication skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to collaborate with peers and students
• Ability for teaching excellence in general education courses
• Knowledge to effectively teach mathematics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
• Evidence to establish a scholarly research program
• Willingness to contribute to the department in terms of service

Licensure & Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to teach a variety of mathematics courses, with qualified candidates also teaching statistics and/or mathematics education courses
• Experience teaching general education courses
• The ability to involve and engage students in graduate and undergraduate research
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience teaching at the college or university level as an instructor, faculty member, or teaching assistant
